Produktdetails

The present book 'Flussrand Eins - Uferlos' is the second volume of a trilogy. In addition to a detailed introductory text on the theme of collage, the artist Markus Redl offers an extremely personal text telling about himself: about his origins and his parents, about the process of aging and the step-by-step withdrawal from life. Likewise gathered together are accounts of various experiences which, like reportage, provide information about Carrara, the material of stone, industry, and the art market as well as about the biotope of the Universität für angewandte Kunst in Vienna during the 2000s. This mixture fits into the operational mode of collage extending through the book and reflects the linguistic handling of themes that Markus Redl focuses on in his art. In addition to cycles of drawings, there are also textual collages consisting of fragments of authorial texts. These are written as performative texts in which figures speak, i.e. as stage-texts. They contain choric elements, a spatial structure, arising through stage- and audience-spaces as well as fore- and backgrounds for the chorus. These textual collages are characterized as acts and appear throughout the book. They refer to the themes in the running texts and also in the drawings, so that a dramaturgic, dialogic arc is extended between drawing, sign, lettering and image.
