Ewald Mataré (1887-1965) is one of the most important German sculptors of his generation. His sculptural works are characterised by abstract forms and a penchant for precious woods. In 1932, Mataré was appointed to the State Academy of Art in Düsseldorf. After the First World War, numerous public commissions cemented his fame.
